Ooitame Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 I am trying to figure out why there are 2 release buttons? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 I’ve never read or heard a reason. They do appear most often on blades that are high-quality gendaito. Usually star stamped RJT blades . 3 Quote
Dave R Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Upper release button is pressed by the sword wielding hand, or you can press the lower release button with the hand holding the saya. It gives a a choice of grip on the tsuka so the hand is not choked against the tsuba, and can save a second or two when you need the blade out in a hurry. 6 Quote
Ooitame Posted February 26, 2019 Author Report Posted February 26, 2019 Very practical, thanks Dave! Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 No, only upgrades. So you must be seeing higher quality Type 3’s, eh? 1 Quote
Windy Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Fairly sure my Akihisa 3 has two buttons.... Quote
Peter Bleed Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 I have often said that - IF it had come down to swords, Japan would have won WWII. If the people who designed officers' swords had been assigned to aircraft or tank design, just imagine what wonderful weaponry they could have come up with. Instead, what they got was an over designed bit of late medieval armament. P 2 Quote
Ooitame Posted February 26, 2019 Author Report Posted February 26, 2019 Just went with what was on ohmuras site. I thought it applied to all type 3. However, he seems to have all top line swords. Thanks Bruce, for the clarification and knowledge. 1 Quote
