備州長船盛重

Bishu Osafune Morishige

My impression is gimei. Mei (and nakago) does not have the appearance of Nambokucho-to-Muromachi. Appears fresh and mei lacks confidence.

The individual who sold this sword has reached out to express extreme confidence that the mei is authentic. I will withdraw the opinion above and reserve judgment pending shinsa.

Best regards,

I dread Bishu school posts..........

Jean found some examples but I would think the nearest I could find in mei comps tonight is 6th gen Morishige (1491). Ana hole is not in correct place and looks gimei to me after photo compare. Agree with Ray, send it to shinsa and find out, always the possibility it's some other Morishige or a school sword etc. I am being kind in that comment.

Easy to solve..submit for papers and post the outcome.
His comment is directed at the call of possible gimei. It is not irresponsible though, it is always possibly unless the sword is sold with a guarantee of shoshin?
