Bit tricky this one as I haven't time to struggle too much, but there is the date Koka 2nd or 3rd year there - 1845, 1846 as well as Edo and the name which looks like Yukimasa. Sasama doesn't list anyone of that name but that means little. Could you supply images of the helmet and another shot of the inscription and I will have another go.

Filling in some of Ian's blanks. (Maybe this was already covered in the post that disappeared.)

Right to left

弘化二巳年

江戸??勘次郎

行年六十九

Kōka 2 (1845)

Edo?? Kanjirō

Gyōnen 69

Gyōnen usually means the age of a person at death, but maybe in this context it is the age of the smith at which he completed the helmet?

Also, I can't quite get the family name of the smith. I was thinking 三井 (Mitsui) but I'm not confident. Another photo might help.
