Tengu1957 Posted February 12, 2019 Report Posted February 12, 2019 This is a plain gun but I believe most of those intended for use were left plain. It's is signed but I have not received an image. Length - 104 cm Bore. - 1.9 cm Weight - 11.8 Kilos Quote
Tengu1957 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Report Posted February 16, 2019 This was is signed : Bizen no kami Nagafune jyu Yokoyama Tatsuzurmon Fujiwara HoroNobu saku Dated 1848 Also states: made as 1 of 2 guns for defense of Osaka Quote
uwe Posted February 16, 2019 Report Posted February 16, 2019 I’m eager to throw an eye on the mei, Gary! Although, I assume the translation above bears some inconsistencies, it seems very close to the Sendai gun Jan inquired and you subsequently posted in the translation section. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 21, 2019 Report Posted February 21, 2019 Re: Bizen no kami Nagafune jyu Yokoyama Tatsuzurmon Fujiwara HoroNobu saku In light of the similar signature yesterday, this must surely be "Bizen no Kuni, Osafune Ju, Yokoyama Tatsuemon (no Jo) Sukenobu Saku", methinks, except that he was not alive back then at the siege of Osaka. Would it be possible to see the Osaka inscription? Quote
Tengu1957 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Report Posted February 21, 2019 The comment was not intended to suggest it was at the siege of the castle just made to defend Osaka. I have a carbine where on the barrel it give the gun a name " defender of Yamashiro ". The original owner of the gun #8 submitted for translation on the web site of shigeo sugawa and passed it on to me. I will try and take it apart, it's supposed to be post 1830's. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 22, 2019 Report Posted February 22, 2019 Ah, perhaps it is a title, like Osaka no Kami, 大坂の守 then... Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 23, 2019 Report Posted February 23, 2019 Not wishing to slang anyone off but re: "The original owner of the gun #8 submitted for translation on the web site of shigeo sugawa and passed it on to me". I hate to repeat this on this site, as I know I will get grief for it again, but Shigeo Sugawa despite amazing energy and the very best of intentions is not terribly good in the editing department. That is all I will say right now. Quote
uwe Posted February 23, 2019 Report Posted February 23, 2019 No grief from my side Piers ???? 1 Quote
