kissakai Posted February 11, 2019 Report Posted February 11, 2019 Hi After looking at a request for Yagyu tsuba I thought that anyone owning this type of tsuba would be most reluctant to give it up So I thought which of my tsuba I could never sell. Having two daughters and one granddaughter (wife any my choice included~) I'd like them to keep one each that would remind them of me Why haven't I put up a couple of images? It is such a difficult task to select the 'right' tsuba but I do know it will not be based on price I'll need a couple of days to make my selection assuming I can For some collectors it may be easier as they already have a star Grev 1 Quote
Marius Posted February 11, 2019 Report Posted February 11, 2019 Grev, You are right. Such items must have a connection to the person. Not necessarily expensive. If someone loves his Yaguu tsuba... OK. They can be very good, although - very unfortunately - the appellation "Yagyu" alone makes such a tsuba expensive, even if it is mediocre or worse. Just my utterly unnecessary musings. Quote

paulb Posted February 11, 2019 Report Posted February 11, 2019 Same as Stephen I had this discussion years ago regarding collectors wanting their offspring to carry on with their interest. The point is it was their interest not their children's. We sort of came to the joint conclusion it would be better for them to sell our collections and put the money to something they were equally passionate about and loved as much as we did swords. Of course it is a totally individual thing with no right or wrong and we all have to do what we think is right. It's just sometimes the straightforward solution isn't necessarily the best. 4 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted February 11, 2019 Report Posted February 11, 2019 I don't think I could part with my Motoharu rabbit tsuba, my favorite piece. I look at it about every day. Thanks again Stephen! 2 Quote
