Thekirsh Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Hi All, Any information on my latest tsuba ( or comments ) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Simon Quote
Grey Doffin Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 I believe it is signed, "Choshu Ju Tomohisa". Tomohisa is a commonly found name among Choshu tsuba-shi. Look for a blue cast to the iron as a sign of good Choshu work. Grey Quote
Nobody Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 The mei looks more like Tomoyuki (å‹ä¹‹) to me. Quote
Thekirsh Posted July 20, 2008 Author Report Posted July 20, 2008 Thank you for the information, I was also unsure about the last kanji. I have stared at the tsuba for some time trying to see any blueish tinge but all I see is brown, brown and more brown  Grey Is the blue colour I'm looking for similiar to that of mild steel when it has been overheated? Also any ideas on the age of this tsuba? Regards Simon Quote
Grey Doffin Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 The blue is a bluish cast to the black of the iron; that's the best way I can describe it. If it's there you should have no trouble seeing it under natural light. There's a Choshu Tomoyuki in the Peabody Museum softcover tsuba book, page 21, with a given date of 1750. Grey Quote
