Tengu1957 Posted February 9, 2019 Report Posted February 9, 2019 I wanted share some images of my matchlocks. This one is 77 lbs and 44 inches. It is signed and mentions that it was made for a minor Daimyo. The silver inlay on the barrel translates into "reaching far away". I have not had it apart since I acquired it or I would provide images of the signed barrel. Quote
Tengu1957 Posted February 9, 2019 Author Report Posted February 9, 2019 Sorry but I can't seem to successfully upload the images Quote

Stephen Posted February 10, 2019 Report Posted February 10, 2019 What a beast...love to see more esp down the bore. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 10, 2019 Report Posted February 10, 2019 Gary, a lovely gun in fantastic condition. What a great find! If it says 遠至 then perhaps "long-range hit(s)" = achieving a faraway target, long-distance bullseye! Quote
Viper6924 Posted February 10, 2019 Report Posted February 10, 2019 Some candy for us tepponistas. Equipped with a solid breech (tobi no o) which is quite rare and only found on O-zutsu from 30 Monme and up. I’ve seen it on matchlocks from Yonezawa, Bizen and the island on Shikoku. Hope you can open it up so might see if there is a signature present. Jan Quote
Bazza Posted February 10, 2019 Report Posted February 10, 2019 Ahhhh, a rare beauty. Love the barrel plug - original to the gun, I wonder??? Never heard of tobi no o before. Very interesting indeed. Thank you for posting Gary, I really enjoyed seeing this. In over 50 years of collecting I have only seen two o-zutsu and cannot remember the breech configuration. Something new learned today. BaZZa. Bugyotsuji Posted February 10, 2019 Report Posted February 10, 2019 Bazza, it’s a bird tail breech fastener, like an extension backwards of the top of the barrel.. There is no Bisen screw plug with this style of barrel, meaning that it has to be swabbed out from the breech. Quote
Anthony de Vos Posted February 16, 2019 Report Posted February 16, 2019 Hi! Fantastic gun, Gary. Heavy girl! 100 monme I presume. A real beauty. Anthony Quote
Tengu1957 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Report Posted February 16, 2019 Anthony Bore is 4.4 cm The barrel plug is supposed to be the original ram rod. 1 Quote
