Wakizashi Edo, Thoughts?

Hi every one, i want your opinion about this waki, the koshirae indeed the waki im sure is original but the koshirae i have doubts, maybe from after 1900? tsuba, fuchi, kashira, etc? thanks a lot guys. i put the sageo practising, so its not original and i make a poor job because is my first try, thanks in advance. The tsuba is a little oiled for protection, for this reason shine a little bit.

Hi Eric, your tsuba looks like it may be namban, not sure about the blade but looks ok. I would like to see a front on pic of your nice white pine bonsai. All the best

I sincerely hope you did not pay much for this WAKIZASHI? Perhaps you should ask here before buying!

The KOSHIRAE is of course not complete, the TSUKA is not authentic; maybe there is an old one under the textile. I can't say much about the NANBAN style TSUBA or if it might be authentic. But the main thing is that the blade seems to have a bad HAGIRE (crack). Most collectors would reject a blade with such a fatal damage.

not much i payed arround 500, i think is namban too, sems pretty autentic for the age and damage, the habakki too, where you see the hagire Jean? there a forge flaws but a dindt see fatal one, thanks. Normaly i dont gonna be in battle, and im not an great collector that spend 6k in a katana, i buy what i like and the kimono well is part of his story for good or bad, i collect for smurai history,principally, regards!

A shame about the wire damage on the white pine in the green pot but the white pine in the brown pot is lovely.

Thank you for sharing them Eric. It was 43° Celsius here today and around 40° for around 2 weeks so my bonsai are drinking loads of water lately. Cheers

Yes i buyed for 40 dollars each, a really good buy but i extracted the wires as soon as i arrived to spain, here arround 3 degrees, where are you from to be at 40 in winter?

Im in Australia Eric so its the middle of summer here.

$40 is a bargain for white pine bonsai, especially the one in the brown pot.

How did you get them back to Spain?

In a wine wood box in to the luggage, a poker face at the airport and a little bit of luck, Here at least cost 150-200 dollars each, Better say sorry than please. I played my cards well, my dream many years ago to buy a japanesse bonsai, i buyed 4, all are great with the others, regards greg!

I feel like I've seen tsuka with fabric instead of samekawa under the tsuka-ito.  Polish looks pretty good for that price. Be interesting to see some better shots of the blade.

Yes i see some with motherpearl and kimono under the ito, maybe is only a end edo finish, the made dont seem bad donne absolutly, with the two pieces of rope under menuki hole, seem very dificult to do too. Maybe the owner used in finish edo period, the kimmono looks good, if someone want to replicate or made a fake copy dont waste this time doing this, a normal tsuka ito is not so expensive to do too, maybe a romantic samurai XD

Dear Eric.

 

This is your sword so your dream.  Yes, sometimes fabric is used under ito, notably on some tachi.  No, a proper wrap over new same and including menuki is not a cheap option, this fabric is.  It is much easier to wrap an off-cut of fabric around a tsuka and put together some sort of koshirae in order to sell the sword than it is to properly restore it.

 

Enjoy your sword, we are all relieved that it is free from hagire.
