Hearn is my favorite from the group of later 19th century European authors who wrote of Japan.  His retellings of the old tales and stories of Japan are filled with charm, and a sense of wonder that make his writings particularly endearing. Very enjoyable reading.  Thanks Peter, for introducing him to the new generations of collectors.
