nickm Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 So the newest thing I want to add to the collection is a wakizashi in need of Polish. I have been looking and looking for something that is in decent shape fundamentally but that is theoretically hiding its true nature. Would like it to have mei and hopefully be of a notable Smith. I know that it's a hard thing to find as most things that are worth polishing are already polished but I thought I would post it on here just to see what might come back.. Thanks as always
Greg F Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 Hi Nick may I ask why you want a blade that is out of polish instead of polished, price? Greg
nickm Posted January 11, 2019 Author Report Posted January 11, 2019 Good question. For me it seems pretty interesting to see the Before & After and also something about the idea of it not having been seen as well as it could be for a number of years. Price is more dependent on value considering quality/potential.
Greg F Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 I asked as I was curious weather you want out of polish because a plade in polish might be out of budget or if you want to get it polished professionally or by an amateur (hopefully not yourself ) or to keep as is. Cheers. Greg
nickm Posted January 11, 2019 Author Report Posted January 11, 2019 Would be professional polish. dont truly expect to find it anytime soon but its always something to watch for..
Shugyosha Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 Hi Nick, You haven't said what your price range is, but have a look on Andrew Quirt's website: http://www.nihonto.us/KIYONOBU%20WAKIZASHI%20PAUL%20FLICK.htm http://www.nihonto.us/RAI%20KINMICHI%20JP.htm http://www.nihonto.us/NOSHU%20YASUKUNI%20%20NAGINATANANAOSHI%20STYLE%20WAKIZASHI.htm My choice would by the Kinmichi, but your heart has to be in it because it normally doesn't make financial sense as the cost of the blade plus the polish (possibly with new shirasaya and habaki) is usually more than the value of the sword once it is done. Happy hunting! Best, John
