Hi Chris, this looks like a very nice sword. The mei (Ichi) appears fairly crisp and does not show the age you would expect from an authentic, zaimei ichimonji. It also looks to have a very long kaeri. Do you have a clear photo of the koshirae? I am curious if we are looking at an original Tensho-period tsuka.

Could definitely be Tensho. I have also seen very similar Edo Mid to Late Shinto into Shinshinto Bizen swords, Kawachi no Kami Sukesada for example, that display similar Hamon, I am not saying it is, but could be, made to look older. Either way that is one nice sword.

Well, this looks like a very good Bizen den sword but I am not sure it is Ichimonji. It feels later than that and more into Nanbokucho/Muromachi territory. Do you see utsuri, and if so, what (jifu, midare or bo)? How does the boshi look and is there niku?

Regarding the mei:

- it is too crisp as Raymond says

- goes through shinogi line (which is not how it is in most Ichimonji shoshin zaimei but perhaps in 30% of the cases it does go through there)

- is on the wrong side of the blade for it to be zaime Ichimonji (ko-) dachi

It might be more a tribute to (made in the style of Ichimonji) or attestation by whoever shortened it (ie he says that he shortened an Ichimonji blade).

Anyway, it is a very good package and well done.
