Chris,

date is ANSEI SHICHI NEN (1861) January (?), I believe, but there are two more KANJI.

Yes, hard to read, Ansei shichi nen, kinoe sho gatsu hi (or jitsu or nichi)....Kinoe is a calendar sign.,, anyway it is sho-gatsu, so January 1861.

Regards,

I have some problemes to find out the smith. In Hawley are listed 3 in that period with muneshige, but none Komatsu. There is Komatsu City in Ishikawa province. But there is no Muneshige.

Any idea who this smith is?

Thats the blade

Uwe,

I thought it would be 1854 plus 7, but probably you are right.

Jean,

actually 1854 = first year Ansei, so you have to add only 6 years ;-)
