Sounded all very noble and romantic and honorable...until this part..

The Gifu Prefectural Police have since organized a 10-officer task force to look for the missing swords. The swordsmith says he used the warehouse for storing rusty or defective pieces, which he would later melt down for metal to use in new projects. As such, their monetary value is limited, but he and the authorities are worried about the potential for injuries they pose.

More nanny tactics thinking that objects themselves are inherently dangerous. Perhaps they should tell the community to avoid cars and kitchen knives and wrap themselves in bubble wrap.
10 Policemen to look for defective swords.  :doubt:

If they were rejects and/or discarded swords, I doubt they went through the whole polishing stage, so unlikely to be razor sharp. And the danger is no more or less than any debris..metal shards etc.
Just sounds like overreaction to me. Not enough to need 10 policemen looking for them. Can you imagine all the chef's knives and gardening tools that were washed away in the flood?

Exactly. Are they looking for them for the "historic" value or because, like other nanny states, they want to get them off the street before they corrupt any unsuspecting minors...

Reminds me of the time in a city in England. There was a .22 rimfire cartridge found in the gutter of the street. Well they called in the bomb squad and roped off the entire block for the day while they "secured" the dangerous .22 cartridge...lol

Yeah, last year, someone dropped a package with two boxes of .30-06 shells & a couple of knives (probably bought at our local gun show that same day), & the police brought in a robot to pick up the package & blow it up. Caused an incredible traffic jam, & made a lot of us shake our heads.

Really? Sounds like Fox news to me. I live in the UK and we are not THAT sensitive.

Then again, our last school shooting was in 1996! "lol"

I don't recall the source but it was a while ago. Roughly 10 years maybe?

Around that same time, did you hear of the cache of ammo found in the fountain in some suburban backyard? The same panic afterwards.

It's funny. Rounded knives. Panic at the sight of ammo. When they ban everything sharp, what about the brick bats and lead pipes lol
