Bruno Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 Hello, I am looking for pictures of Gunsui-to (nakago & blades), as I did not find much online. If you own one and have pictured it, I would be interested in seeing them. Thanks in advance Edit: Gunsui-to, not Gensui-to 1 Quote
seattle1 Posted December 13, 2018 Report Posted December 13, 2018 Hello: I can't put my finger on it at the moment but the late Han Bing Siong did a wonderful write up on such and published same in the JSS/US NL or a special separate publication of samesome years ago. Arnold F. 1 Quote
Bruno Posted December 13, 2018 Author Report Posted December 13, 2018 Thanks Arnold. I'd like to find out if they were made with the same uniform level of care and finish that most Mantetsu-to were, or if there are various levels of quality among them like traditional gendai-to. It seems only an handful of smiths made them in Gunma. Quote
lonely panet Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 they would be 10000000% better i would have thought. off the top of my head there were only 25 made. PS beer in hand. 1 Quote

lonely panet Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 by the spelling, I assume your referring to this sword Quote
Bruno Posted December 14, 2018 Author Report Posted December 14, 2018 No I guess yours is Gensui-to, I am talking about swords made by Gunsui-ko, which was an electrolytic iron made by a hydroelectric power company in Gumma prefecture as a substitute for tamahagane. Quote
Bazza Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 Hello: I can't put my finger on it at the moment but the late Han Bing Siong did a wonderful write up on such and published same in the JSS/US NL or a special separate publication of samesome years ago. Arnold F. I had quite a correspondence with the Honorable and Venerable Han Bing Siong and somewhere I think I have a photo of the gunsuito he had. I'll bear it in mind as I continue cleaning up the chaos of 50+ years of collecting/hgoarding/disorganising... Ahhh, just seen Bruno's post to Hamish. HBS's sword was a gensuito... BaZZa 1 Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 Here's a good one for you, Bruno! Found by @Beater at Japanese.sword.katana.jp page. Anyone know of the significance or meaning of the starburst at the top? Religious, celestial? 1 1 Quote
Mark Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 strange if it is a stamp, maybe unknown........ it also looks a bit like someone started drilling a hole there and quit but dressed it up to cover it up trying to make it into something 2 1 Quote
