Stephen Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I have a bid on a tsuba which called Goishi-gata style, or like a stone for the game Go, i was wondering does anyone has one in collection that they care to share? Quote
Brian Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 While it's a new term for me, this is the only one I found online. Note that I am just giving their description, can't verify it. Tsuba for WakizashiThe Goishi-gata (round, tapered off to the rim) iron Tsuba is decorated with Sukidashi-bori carving on Migaki-ji plate, design of eggplant*, outlined in Marumimi. * eggplant - one of the Three Lucky Symbols in Edo period, Mt.Fuji & Hawk & eggplant, these three are famous things of Suruga province which was a part of Tokugawa Shogun`s territory. That`s a reason why Edo people loved eggplant as a lucky symbol Attachment: Condition/Damage: very good/dirt and lust Size: 68 x 67 x 4,7 mm; nakago-ana 25 mm; weight 110 g Age: late Edo NOTE: This one doesn't have any rust, but apparently it does have some lust  Quote

Mike Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Hello Stephen, here is goishi gata tsuba from my collection, it has kamon design and a very smooth and polished surface, the condition is not perfect but I do like it. This one might be mid-Edo Umetada, but I am not sure. Size is 7.5 x 7.5 cm, thickness at the nakago ana 4 mm, and at the mimi 2.1 cm. Mike Quote
Stephen Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 thanks Mike, i think its a fine looking tsuba. Quote
