jeep44 Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 I posted this in the wrong forum before, but here is the surrender tag on a sword I picked up today.Any help would be greatly appreciated! Quote
SteveM Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 The two far left lines look like the location and the name of the owner 所有者福囗囗(眺?) 西原源 Shoyūsha Fuku ? ? Nishihara Gen Owner: Fuku something-something Nishihara Gen (personal name) I don't know the significance of the 眺 kanji. At looks like it ought to be part of the person's name, but somehow it doesn't fit as a name. The location name starts with 福. The second kanji looks like 弓 and the third I would guess is 町, but there is no such location as 福弓町. It might be some shorthand version of 福島県 (Fukushima Prefecture) but that is starting to stretch credibility both from a handwriting perspective and a context perspective. Quote
SteveM Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 Actually, looks more like a price tag than a surrender tag. If I'm not mistaken the first line is a price 囗囗金六百五拾円也 650 yen 無名 ~650 yen mumei If you could change the angle to get a better shot of those first two kanji, it might help. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 I agree with with Steve, that this does not look like a surrender tag. A pawn marker, maybe? Peter 1 Quote

Mark Posted November 26, 2018 Report Posted November 26, 2018 you would think a price tag might have been removed when purchased, or at least not put on in such a way that seems to make it sort of permanent.. strange Quote
