What are your thoughts? Could this mumei katana be an muromachi-era sword? In my opinion it should be late edo-era. What would be a fair price for the sword?

Thanks

Ed

Looks to have some age to it but there are some large patches of what appear to be umegane in the shinogi. If you could post a pic of the full length of the blade that would help.

My assessment is that this is a classic kazeuchi Bizen-to dating from the Muromachi that was found completely suitable for service as an officer's sword. I also agree that it wears a rather blocky umegane repair. These are not desirable but they also are not all that negative. It looks like a nice and very collectible shingunto.

so your the winner,

i was the under bidder , the sellers description was fair and accurate, and the price you won it for was a steal. so please take comfort in knowing you did very well.

school?, I would IMHO  kizu-uchi either Bizen or mino

What your prepared to pay really.

A person who is more interested in IJA swords will be thrilled about the mounts, while another person who'd main focus is nihonto pre Mejia restoration my well be very turned off the umegane and the fact is a mass produced warring statues blade.
