ROKUJURO Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 Gentlemen,I just bought a TSUBA from an NMB member. On first glance it looks quite simple, and unfortunately it has suffered a lot of corrosion. Neverteless, it shows some details I find interesting, as it seems to have two different KAMON. One could be the KIRI family MON of the AKAMATSU, the other one resembles the flower (?) in the AKAGAWA or IKEDA I MON.I would appreciate any information on school, period or design meaning of this TSUBA (78 mm dia). Surfson Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 It is nice that some of the original art, which is subtle and elegant, shows through among the ravages of age. Quote
vajo Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 I like your Tsuba very much Jean. It has a very nice design and the iron seems to have a blueish color. The design looks like open fans. And with the hot stamps i would go in the direction of saotome. Quote
FlorianB Posted November 15, 2018 Report Posted November 15, 2018 It could be possible that these ornaments are Kamon, but it’s more likeley they are simply design. The mon are embossed by stamps and such decorations could be seen frequently without any heraldic relevance.Florian Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 15, 2018 Author Report Posted November 15, 2018 Chris and Florian, thank you for your helpful comments! Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 17, 2018 Author Report Posted November 17, 2018 By the way, the thickness is 3,9 mm at the MIMI, and 4,6 mm at the SEPPA-DAI. Does this help to make an assessment so that I can put a tag on this one? Quote
FlorianB Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 Alas I have no idea about a school but because of the fan-shapd sukashi, the sharp angeled nakago-ana and the mentioned niku I would put it into the Edo-period. Certainly it appears older due to corrosion and apart from that an old look (some sabi-feeling...) was maybe intentioned.Florian Quote
