BreizhSamourai Posted November 11, 2018 Report Posted November 11, 2018 Hello This katana is in WW2 mounting and I initially thought it was a gendaito blade (given it has no stamps and a light patina) but could it be older? It has a very nice pattern that reminds me of gassan blades (even though the lines are parallel to the cutting edge so not really wavy). Could it be a shinshinto work? Thx for your ideas & thoughts Eric Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 11, 2018 Report Posted November 11, 2018 Eric, looks like a nice blade! MEI says KANE....(MOTO? HISA?). Beautiful MASAME HADA! NAKAGO looks indeed SHIN-SHINTO, but I am not of great help here! P.S. Un breton à New York? Quote
BreizhSamourai Posted November 13, 2018 Author Report Posted November 13, 2018 thx a lot for your help I hope somebody will be able to identify the smith, i could not find a mei that matches a kanemoto or kanehisa Quote
Tom Darling Posted November 13, 2018 Report Posted November 13, 2018 Yamato school, Sendai Kunikane and Shigekune both influenced by Yamato masame/parallel lamination, with the Sujikai-yasuri. My guess would be Shinshinto. Can't help you on the mei. Good luck. Tom D. Quote
vajo Posted November 13, 2018 Report Posted November 13, 2018 The hada looks like a gendaito blade that shamsy shows here in the board some times ago. I can't remember what sword it was but i looks like very similar to this. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 13, 2018 Report Posted November 13, 2018 Eric, now with Steve's invaluable help I have looked it up and it seems indeed to be a SHIN-SHINTO blade. KANESUGI, BUNGO province, KEIO period.Congratulations, looks like a good find! Quote
