Under Denise M'ski kind permission, hereunder I post a link to a photoalbum containing well taken pictures

of a Koa Isshin Mantetsu in Tachi mounting, posted on another forum and that I think can be of interest here too

and worth to be stored in the forum for future references.

Quoting Morita-San :

"Made in The South Manchurian Rail Way Co..

The blade is a Koa-Isshin Mantetsu sword.

This Tachi-sword is very very rare.

This is a sword presented to the long service employees for 25 years by the company (S.M.R.).

...omississ...

sword was made in 1941 by S.M.R.

The signature is Tachi-mei but most other Koa-Isshin swords are Katana-mei.

So your this blade is Koa-Isshin Tachi-sword (This is very very unusual ).

Serial number is a Japanese Katakana character "Yo" and number Kanji character" 352 " (Yo 352)."

So many thanks to Morita-San for having spotted it.

In case of deletion of the Photoalbum in the future, pictures has been stored for my "Tsubame Project" so

they'll be available under request at tsubame1@tin.it .

Ohmura's page on the subject :

Enjoy.

I read that thread as it unfolded, and it is an amazing find. Also a brilliant observation by Morita san. The story is fascinating and I hope the sword will be preserved and be researched. While not for the strict Nihonto fans, for the Japanese militaria guys and Japanese researchers, it is a great story..especially watching it unfold.

Thanks for sharing it here Carlo.

Moriyama san,

Would that blade be illegal in Japan, even with the sword being rare and unusual?

I guess it isn't from tamahagane so it wouldn't be allowed in Japan?

I meant Moriyamita san

Sorry....I was temporarily confused between some of our resident experts here  Blame it on a rough Friday at work ;)

I meant of course Morita san, but Moriyama san or anyone else familiar with these swords and the laws there should be able to clarify. :)

Thanks for the correction Carlo.

Hi Morita-San. PM read. I'll revert as soon as possible.

Tsubame Project is a digital storage of information about Nihonto and Samurai weaponry from every source,

scans from book, internet, whole websites, everything. It's no more available on DVD as advertized on my website because of the

size reached. I've to update the homepage.

I E-mailed to Mr.Mike Yamasaki and the Tang photo was sent from him.

Thank you very much Mike. :)

This blade is really nice koa Isshin Tach blade made by S.M.R.

And rare Tachi-mei.

The Mei(signature) of the Tang is:

Haki omote: " Koa Isshin Mantetsu kore o tsukuru".

Haki ura: "Showa Kanoe-Tatsu Aki" that means made in Autumn, 1940.
