Spartancrest Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 https://www.eindhovenaikido.com/exclusive-tsuba-collection/ similar to the V&A example above. 2 Quote
Deez77 Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 Hello all, I believe this is another one showing a similar motif. 4 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 19, 2022 Report Posted August 19, 2022 A popular theme indeed! Found this one just listed - https://www.jauce.com/auction/q1061055724 Described as 'nanban' - possibly Hizen? 2 Quote
GRC Posted August 19, 2022 Report Posted August 19, 2022 Another variant of this style. It has a mei (光徳作時代) that doesn't come up in Sesko's meikan, but a nice looking signature nonetheless. I like the kanji strokes that were done as round dots rather than linear strokes. Perhaps this is a kettle makers work, rather than a tsubako? I'm curious to see if anyone else can find examples of this mei in whatever meikan they may have access to. Also, there's a clear irregular casting "crease" line along the body and fin at the 10 o'clock position of the signed side. And the eyes didn't quite turn out as they usually do (especially on the ura side). now to compare to the previous two: 2 1 Quote
GRC Posted August 19, 2022 Report Posted August 19, 2022 By the way Dale, I think the one you just posted is the same one from the July 4th post, on page 3 of this thread I don't think it sold the first time, so it has come back up again, but with different images this time. 1 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 19, 2022 Report Posted August 19, 2022 You are right Glen same one going around the merry-go-round. [Not my cup of tea - not enough piercings] The signed variant above - Kubrick version "Eyes Wide Shut" Seriously I think this is a 'type' where the eyes are (badly) glued on, and obviously failed. Similar to the 'Horse and wood cutter' 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 20, 2022 Report Posted August 20, 2022 Back on thread - I don't think we have seen this one before. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/015-sukasi-round-iron-shachihoko-tsuba Long tail ribs/spines gold outlined hitsu and ten-zogan. [I have taken the liberty of lightening the rather dark images] Quote
GRC Posted August 20, 2022 Report Posted August 20, 2022 That's the first of that type that we have in this thread. Nice find Dale A very nice design on that one. 1 Quote
GRC Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 one from the MFA museum (# 11.11691) Kuwana no ju Tadafusa (Ise school) 桑名住匡房 1 Quote
GRC Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 another variation, but I have no idea who made this one 1 Quote
GRC Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 NBTHK hozon papers, attributed to Hizen 1 Quote
GRC Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 found another one of these, with the same mei Quote

Spartancrest Posted August 27, 2022 Report Posted August 27, 2022 I don't think we have seen this one before - it has some features similar to Mauro's Posted November 5, 2018 and Glens example posted Posted April 7 This was found on - https://klefischauktionen.wordpress.com/ [if you like to search through several thousand images! ] 4 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 I will get this one in before Glen spots it. https://www.jauce.com/auction/b1061970087 3 Quote
GRC Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 Dale, I just spotted it and was on my way over here to post here's the butt end of that one 1 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 29, 2022 Report Posted August 29, 2022 Great Glen - sometimes the time zones come into play. I am not sure I like the ura view. The waves look like deformed penises/penii [am I allowed to say that?] 1 1 Quote
GRC Posted August 30, 2022 Report Posted August 30, 2022 here you go Dale, another new one The seller, true to form, is calling this one Higo Jingo (as he says about almost every one of his tsuba). Looks more like an interesting hybrid between Echizen Kinai, Jakushi, and a touch of Heianjo... Regardless of who made it, it's a very cool looking shachi Love how the dragon's "moustache" weaves over then behind the crashing waves. 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted September 2, 2022 Report Posted September 2, 2022 This one might be a long shot! A Kendo medal described as a 'Carp' but if that is a carp it is the strangest ugliest one on record! Is it just me or is there a suggestion of Bart Simpson in there? 4 Quote
GRC Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 another variant in the overall positioning and layout of the water and the shachi. 2 Quote
Spartancrest Posted September 15, 2022 Report Posted September 15, 2022 The features are hard to see, not great quality, hitsu cut in later [really hate the lighting] https://www.ebay.com/itm/294849989720 1 Quote
GRC Posted September 20, 2022 Report Posted September 20, 2022 Here's a very nice, signed shakudo example. "Choshu Hagi Yugitoshi" was what was stated, but not sure if that's the correct reading or not: 1 Quote
Deez77 Posted October 2, 2022 Report Posted October 2, 2022 Hi all. Here's an example currently available on choshuya. http://ginza.choshuya.co.jp/sale/gj/2017/11/08_tb.htm 1 Quote
GRC Posted October 2, 2022 Report Posted October 2, 2022 Nice one Damon. Looks like a Hazama piece, with their unique "bubbling" alloy inlay Here's a cast iron example that came up today (not even in the same universe of quality compared to the Hazama). Nice design on this one though. Notice the casting "mid-line seam" in the nakago ana in the bottom image, and general telltale surface texture, and color, and wobbly seppa-dai surface etc. 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted October 30, 2022 Report Posted October 30, 2022 This one is described as "Powerful Shachi figure" - he looks rather smug or condescending. https://www.jauce.com/auction/c1070365266 The ura is rather smooth looking and I would not be surprised if it were cast. 2 Quote
Spartancrest Posted October 31, 2022 Report Posted October 31, 2022 The last example I showed is almost identical to one posted back in February 10 There are minor differences between the two, so minor I am convinced both are cast - for example the hitsu outlines are thicker in one than the other but other details are the same. 1 Quote
