Den1884 Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 Hello! Could some please help me determine the origins of this sword? The Scabbard is metal with a wooden lining and the blade length is 70 cm. Someone has tried to home sharpen it causing quite a bit of damage. I can't find ny other examples online especially the acid? etched serial number? Thanks for any advice Leo Quote
Ray Singer Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 Appears to be a Chinese/SE Asian fake. 2 Quote
raaay Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 yip, sorry it is a very poor quality fake indeed . Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 The serial numbers in the blade are a sure mark of a fake. Without the numbers and kanji on the blade, they might have tried to pass it off as an island sword. 2 Quote
Den1884 Posted October 30, 2018 Author Report Posted October 30, 2018 Thanks very much for the advice, I wonder what sword they were trying to imitate, Sin Gunto Type 98? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 Yes “shingunto”. But their effort truly was a “sin!” 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 4, 2018 Report Posted November 4, 2018 Interesting. I just came across another post on Warrelics of another fake sword with the same blade etchings and serial number. Clearly a different sword with different koshirae, but obviously the same blade maker using maybe a template for the blade etchings. Quote
