I’ve seen this exact casting go for $900 on eBay, a few years ago. In that instance I was saved from

Buying it by an expert I met on this forum. Trust Steven he is looking out for you. Don’t worry, this Tsuba has tricked many many people over the years.

Hello:

Any would be object that would not fit flatly, back and front, on a seppa ready for the koshirae cannot be considered a tsuba as it has lost any functional capacity irrespective of where it was made.

That bonhams tsuba looks "wischiwaschi" in its design. No clear and sharp lines to much "ducheinander" in colors. It looks more like Hamamono.

Compare it with that Tsuba:

During Meiji/Taisho certain designs were produced in multiples, with or without variations, using traditional techniques ....they should not be confused with modern commercial cast reproductions.  The original pieces, produced solely as "objet d'art", can/do sell for multiple thousands of dollars.....the reproductions are valueless.  The relative merits of these pieces is up to each individual.....as far as the marketplace goes they have always found ready buyers and will, no doubt, continue to do so.

This kind of fare seems a specialty of the site, apparently none of these 'collector's' have found their way to NMB. Can't blame them, with all the expertise available they can shop assured. Why waste you time and money studying and buying books when you could be adding to your collection....AH BLISS!

Ford i would love to have one of these three Tsuba (I think they are from MfA).

Chris,         The first one, Mudo-myo, was one I restored a while ago. It was discussed here before and after. ;-)

Man! Some of the tsuba in this thread make me want to scratch my eyes out.
If it wasn't for those ones Chris posted that save my sanity .....
