rkg Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 The mei kind of looks right, so maybe this was a deal?.... https://www.sendico.com/yahoo/lot_b334655153.html for posterity, here's one of the images from the auction. I do not own the copyright to this image/am posting it here for educational purposes only... Best, rkg (Richard George) Quote
Brian Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 Wow.At that price, surely it can't have been shoshin?Would love to hear Ford's opinion of this one. It is a beautiful tsuba though. Quote
Jean Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 Unpapered Natsuo, belonging to a Japanese, maybe Christmas before time but I doubt, but I am always skeptical since my childhood when I saw my parents putting so-called Santa’s gifts at the foot of the Christmas tree. 1 Quote
Stefan Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 A fine tsuba, but, the signature does not look good. 1 Quote

kissakai Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 I think it a good idea to look at the mei last just like the sword guys I've seen some of Natsuo flat plate work which took my breath away When looking at these giants if the jaw don't drop it can't be right Just one observation: the flower look lifeless and I think it is same when you look at the famous undercut waves we see on top tsuba 1 Quote
Ford Hallam Posted September 19, 2018 Report Posted September 19, 2018 The work, to my eyes, appears to be reasonably decent Choshu style. Far too generic and formulaic for an artist of the first water like Natsuo or his studio. As for the kao, it appears to be a bit stiff and 'fat' compared to the elegant 'springiness' of the real thing. 1 Quote
