Jacques Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Hi, Higonokami ( knife's name) is like french Opinel. But if in France only Opinel can make Opinel knives, in Japan every cutler can make higonokami. Quote
Nobody Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 That is a well known Japanese old-style folding knife. The style is said to have been established in Meiji era. The name (肥後守 +something) is a registered trademark. FYI; Higonokami (Japanese text only) http://www.higonokami.net/index.html Quote
Mike Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 I have read once that these kind of folders (with no locking mechanism) is originated in the US and were brought to Japan with American tourists and traders in Meiji period. I had one of this very knife which has very interesting sugata but its quality is not good enough even for the very simple cutting jobs. Mike Quote
