Surfson Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 On a quick glance, it looks like a nice piece. Do you own it now? Any papers with it? 1 Quote
bnacorda Posted September 8, 2018 Author Report Posted September 8, 2018 Hi Bob, Yes! I own this now. It has Tokubetsu Hozon origami. I was able to get Roger’s excellent book on Tadahiro. Pouring over it now. Really makes a difference in appreciating this Nihonto. Thanks Ben 1 Quote
Stephen Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 Might as well share my new book 2 Quote

bnacorda Posted September 8, 2018 Author Report Posted September 8, 2018 Thanks Ray! Here’s the koshirae with it. I can post more pictures when I get back home. 3 Quote
EdWolf Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 Hi Ben, That's a nice display case. Hand made or did you bought it? Best regards, Ed Quote
bnacorda Posted September 8, 2018 Author Report Posted September 8, 2018 Hi Ed, I ordered this from amazon. It’s designed to show the bare blade on top and the Saya on the bottom but you can cut it to fit your needs. The top holder has slots to slip the blades into. It’s also lockable with a set of keys and has clips in the bottom to keep the door closed even when unlocked. I added the link below if you want to find something comparable. It runs between $80 to $100 depending on availability. Vermithrax16 Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 Congrats on the new sword! LOVE the case, similar to how I have my setup: 2 Quote
steve0 Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 very nice addition, Rogers book will help a lot in learning the school, smiths and history. Congrats on the find. Quote
bnacorda Posted September 9, 2018 Author Report Posted September 9, 2018 Here’s some more photos along with the rest of the Nihonto family. 3 Quote
bnacorda Posted September 9, 2018 Author Report Posted September 9, 2018 The mei seems representative of the dated mei for 1633? 2 strokes on Fuji. Opinions are welcomed. I’m still amazed at how experts like Ray Singer can eyeball a mei without reference and figure out something fishy. 2 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 The mei seems representative of the dated mei for 1633? 2 strokes on Fuji. Opinions are welcomed. I’m still amazed at how experts like Ray Singer can eyeball a mei without reference and figure out something fishy. I didn't do a mei comp, but you said it was papered. NBTHK? Strokes are just one way to compare mei, I rely on style, depth, and placement. Quote
bnacorda Posted September 9, 2018 Author Report Posted September 9, 2018 Yeah nbthk Tokubetsu Hozon. I can take a picture a little bit later. How precise are the variances of the meis? What are the essential clues to immediately look at? This sword is papered so I was just trying my hand at placing a date on it. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 The glowing nioi-guchi says Yamashiro loud & clear! Nice blade & showcase, Ben. Quote
Jacques Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 Of course i may be wrong but i find the upper kanji too spaced; ordinary the ji hi, zen, kuni are very close. On Omi no Daijo Tadahiro mei the space beetwen the ji are increasing from top to bottom and size of ji are decreasing from top to bottom. Quote
Guest Rayhan Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 Definitely not an expert but your sword has a graceful sugata and as mentioned by Ken the glowing nioiguchi is a good start to the final assessment. Nidai Tadahiro produced a huge amount of swords and mei will naturally vary but good that you bought it papered. Well done and nice displays! 1 Quote

bnacorda Posted September 12, 2018 Author Report Posted September 12, 2018 I got a few when I was at the toei movie studio theme park in Kyoto this year. Stole them from the kids when they started failing to notice them from being missing in their room. You can get the from amazon, varying prices depending on vendor so look around. .
