kissakai Posted September 7, 2018 Report Posted September 7, 2018 Hi I have 5 tsuba in Japan with Paul Martin that were sent for papers Paul has asked me the value and the value is $2,500 so he can return these items via EMS. So0 Japan to the UK I know if items are lost it can be an absolute nightmare to get the insurance back So what about the value? What they cost me or the shinsa costs? I did think that if an item was sent to Japan but not bought in Japan the was a different excise code Grev Quote
vajo Posted September 7, 2018 Report Posted September 7, 2018 Grev, i dont know in other countries but in Germany you must proof the value in case of a lost. If you choose ensurance for 1.000 Dollar and your piece is 1001 Dollar worth you dont get back any money. The most people in germany think they get back 1.000 Dollar and the one is lost. But that is an expensive error. I didnt know how that works in Japan. Quote
kissakai Posted September 7, 2018 Author Report Posted September 7, 2018 WOW - that is a surprise Glad I'm not in Germany Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 7, 2018 Report Posted September 7, 2018 To me Tsuba and Shinsa costs would be integral, so both. But, of course, what is logical is not always so......best to make sure. -S- Quote
Shogun8 Posted September 7, 2018 Report Posted September 7, 2018 Also, make sure that you include the UK's applicable Tariff Code for antiques because you don't want to get hit with VAT and duties. Ideally, if you can prove that you already owned them (and ostensibly, that they had already resided in the UK) and were sent abroad for study/research/educational purposes and are now simply being returned to you, then perhaps you can also avoid the VAT as well. Baka Gaijin Posted September 7, 2018 Report Posted September 7, 2018 Hi Grev, Check out tarif code 9705000090 on the HM Gov site and also look at: https://www.gov.uk/duty-relief-for-imports-and-exports 1 Quote
