george trotter Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 Hi Greg, He is Sakurai Nobuo? Chikafusa of Nagano Prefecture. He was 30 in sho 18 (ie. born 1913). The star shows he was a Rikugun Jumei Tosho (RJT) or Army approved swordsmith. Your sword is therefore a good handmade gendaito. Any pics of blade, fittings? Also, what is the number stamped on the tang? Hope this helps, 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 Date is the 10th month of 1943. 3 Quote

Greg, if the sword is still at hand, can I get a better picture of the serial number at the bottom of the tang? In the meantime, below is a transcription of the kanji characters. ☆ 親房 = ☆ Chikafusa. 皇紀二千六百三年十月日 = A day in October 1943. Attention: @george trotter & @Bruce Pennington 1 Quote
