Hi Greg,

He is Sakurai Nobuo? Chikafusa of Nagano Prefecture. He was 30 in sho 18 (ie. born 1913). The star shows he was a Rikugun Jumei Tosho (RJT) or Army approved swordsmith. Your sword is therefore a good handmade gendaito. Any pics of blade, fittings? Also, what is the number stamped on the tang?

Hope this helps,

Any help and input on the translation and potential authenticity is greatly appreciated.

Greg, if the sword is still at hand, can I get a better picture of the serial number at the bottom of the tang?  In the meantime, below is a transcription of the kanji characters.

☆ 親房 = ☆ Chikafusa.

皇紀二千六百三年十月日 = A day in October 1943.
