ADonets Posted August 26, 2018 Report Posted August 26, 2018 Hi friends, i need your help on this kabuto and mask. I found this on one of online auctions, seller says that this is real Edo. For me, helmet look strange, i have never seen such before. Is made of leather and two metal plates - horizontal and vertical. Sorry, but this is all the photos that I have. I need your opinion - this is a real Edo antiques or not? Thanks for your help! 1 Quote
uwe Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 Hello Aleksandr, I think I saw a similar helmet once before, but can't remember.....or my grey cells teasing me?! Anyway, it's a simple bowl, a bit out of shape at the front (not unusual for nerigawa constructions). 3 lame leather shikoro of low quality (as the bowl itself). Ukebari and shinobi-no-o are new and parts of the lacquer seems "redone" (urushi or not). So someone certainly had his hands on this piece. Probably a Bakumatsu thing?! The hanbo shows some repairs and dates from the Edo period, IMHO. 2 Quote
