ADonets Posted August 26, 2018 Report Posted August 26, 2018 Hi gays. Can you help me with this yari? I found this on one of online auctions(sorry for bad photos). Seller says that this is "19th century samurai police seisankaku yari". Is this real antiques or not? 55 cm long, blade is 9 cm. Thanks for your help! Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 My initial impression is that this is not authentic. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 I have a similarly-mounted te yari (javelin or hand-spear): but it's in considerably-better shape. What looks unauthentic, Ray? 2 Quote
Gilles Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 I agree with Ray, The averall shape of the yari, its bohi and the round base of the nakago seems to be quite suspicious to my eyes.... No comparision with your blade Ken which is unmistakably a good one. Just my personnal opinion, Quote
Jon MB Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 This piece looks to be either inauthentic or poorly restored. Note the apparent machining marks to the left of picture '3' (picture '5 of 11'). Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 Good morning all, the proportions are all over the place, suggesting a cobble together of various parts. As for the suggestion of 19th Century Police Provenance................. Still, it encouraged me to read up on the various levels of Edo period Police service. PS Ken's Te - Yari or maybe Makura Yari is really fine. Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 The geometry of the blade appears wrong in all aspects. For example, look at the kerakubi (which strongly resembles a lug wrench). My feeling is that this entire assembly is modern. What looks unauthentic, Ray? 3 Quote
