vajo Posted August 10, 2018 Report Posted August 10, 2018 Has anyone an idea about this tsuba design, school and age? What kind of Koshirae / Tosogu would fit to it? Thanks Chris 4 Quote
Geraint Posted August 10, 2018 Report Posted August 10, 2018 Dear Chris. Like Stephen I have a fondness for copper fittings. I would suggest falling rain as a them and a koshirae like this would suit I feel. But of course that is a matter of taste and aesthetics. It's a nice tsuba! All the best. 1 Quote
Brian Posted August 10, 2018 Report Posted August 10, 2018 Wow...I really like that. Is it available by any chance?I would think it is emulating cut bamboo personally. Like it a lot. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted August 10, 2018 Report Posted August 10, 2018 Very nice Chris...i seen it on auction but couldn't bid. Id think all copper fittings would be nice. 1 Quote
vajo Posted August 10, 2018 Author Report Posted August 10, 2018 Thanks all. I bought it from a friend and member here in the board today. It was on auction yes. I saw this and love it without knowing anything what the motif is or anything. Maybe bamboo or rain on a woodwall or something else? From the age maybe end of edo to late meiji? Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted August 10, 2018 Report Posted August 10, 2018 Hi Chris, Great simple and elegant design....be it rain, bamboo or wood grain, it is a striking design. I agree with your feelings as to age, late Edo/Meiji looks right. As for koshirae style Geraint's choice is a favorite of mine and would fit it well...of course, due to its nature you can go many ways. -S- Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 I agree cut bamboo, and, here's a wild guess.... I wonder if it is an allusion to the virtue of 文武両道 Bunbu Ryodō (Harmony of Pen and Sword)? As kanji was originally written upon strips of wood and bamboo before the introduction of paper. 1 Quote
