Andi B. Posted July 4, 2018 Report Posted July 4, 2018 Hi, inspired by the display at Samurai Art Expo I ask myself from where to get a cup of satetsu... I'm located in Germany so asking a Tatara museum is an option (thanks Paul) but maybe not the nearest/cheapest source. Any ideas, hints or a full bucket in the basement...? Thanks!
ROKUJURO Posted July 4, 2018 Report Posted July 4, 2018 Andi, you can mine that yourself, e.g. on the shores of the Baltic sea. Aquaintances of mine passed their holidays over there and with the help of a big magnet, they were able to gather quite a lot of that material. In the end, they processed it into TAMAHAGANE by using a small bloomery furnace (celtic type). They had the raw material analyzed and it proved to be quite close to the Japanese SATETSU - it even had a small titanium content!
