Vermithrax16 Posted June 19, 2018 Report Posted June 19, 2018 Delivery days are always the best, even if it's a Tuesday. Not really a dragon motif lover usually, but this one kept sticking in my head. Add in it's a Mito School example, and well, I have an affinity for the history of that line. NBTHK Hozon: "Tsuba depicting hiding dragon that has not yet ascended into the sky" Length: 8.75cm Width: 8.07cm Width: 0.88cm Weight: 252g (!!) I also wanted to give a nice review for Touken Komachi on this one. I paid for this tsuba on Friday, and it's here Tuesday. Communication was excellent, even with the time difference that can make things frustrating when dealing with a Japan based source. Very professional and I appreciate that. I am pretty excited about this one. A little TLC will really bring it back to excellent condition. 6 Quote
b.hennick Posted June 20, 2018 Report Posted June 20, 2018 The condition looks fine to me. Be gentle! 3 Quote

TETSUGENDO Posted June 20, 2018 Report Posted June 20, 2018 Very nice dragon you have acquired Jeremiah. Like Barry and Stephen I too wouldn't fiddle with it as nothing, per se, is exclaiming CLEAN ME. BTW, the lure of the dragon is powerful, resistance is futile.....your surrender.....inevitable! Cheers, 2 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 20, 2018 Report Posted June 20, 2018 Jeremiah,a nice TSUBA, made with competent and fine chisel work! Condition is quite good, I think. Something you can be happy about! Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted June 24, 2018 Author Report Posted June 24, 2018 New tsuba in nihonto display section. I returned all my books/references back to the table and cleaned everything up. 2 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted September 1, 2018 Author Report Posted September 1, 2018 Excited about the set of menuki to pair with the dragon tsuba. The shapes of the flames are matching, love it: 2 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 You should be, the menuki are a fine match, together they make a beautiful set.....well done Jeremiah! Cheers, -S- p.s.- note how the dragons are multiplying, one.......two......three....... Quote
Surfson Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 Very nice Jeremiah. Are the menuki iron? Quote
lotus Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 I have to say that is a really nice Tsuba. What era do we think it is, I assume some part of Edo? Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted September 3, 2018 Author Report Posted September 3, 2018 Robert, they are shakudo. Patrick, no era is stated on the Hozon paper, but from seller was listed as "Edo" period. I am not good enough with tosogu to estimate age. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 Jeremiah, If you please- some better shots of the menuki (a bit higher res) are something I, and I'm sure others, would appreciate....the present pics don't do them justice. -S- Quote

They arrived today and really can't get good pics with my camera phone. Best I could do. I don't think these are epic pieces or high end, but they match the tsuba very well and look amazing in hand. 1 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 5, 2018 Report Posted September 5, 2018 Jeremiah, Just wanted a better look at some of the modelling, and I got what I needed. I wouldn't knock them as the quality is good and they are an excellent compliment to the tsuba. BTW, Brian allows for a generous bit of resolution quality...don't be so stingy with the resolution and your photos will be the better for it. Thanks for the pics, -S- 1 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted September 5, 2018 Author Report Posted September 5, 2018 Thanks StevenK, wish my phone, which does great on sword hada and all the rest, was better for smaller objects. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 5, 2018 Report Posted September 5, 2018 Thank you Jeremiah, The priority of most phone cameras is portraiture, not macro stuff unfortunately. The reason I suggested using higher resolution is that you can enlarge the image, to compensate for the cameras limitations with better results. Also, brighter diffused lighting is key as image quality falls off rapidly as availble light diminishes. Just some things that work for me (disclaimer-not a wiz at dig/photog) that I thought may be helpful, fiddle around a bit and you'll come to workable formula. Cheers, -S- Quote
