Hi All,

Recently I found the sword, which I expect to be a ww2 Japanese Katana. I'm not able to find out if this is true. I'm curious what type of sword this is and from which period.

Thanks for your help!

Edward

Edward,
Made in the style of a Japanese sword, but I don't think it is Japanese. Looks like it has age, so possibly it is made in one of the occupied territories during the war, or made by a blacksmith in the same style. But I don't think it is traditionally made in Japan. Does look like something made long ago to use though, maybe native made in SE Asia?

Hi Edward, looks like a sword made for example in Indonesia (Dutch East Indies) during or close to the end of WW2. The local inhabitants saw Real military Japanese swords, and tried to emulate them.

Hello,

Yes,agree, has all the hallmarks of end of war island made sword with remnants of leather still attached to the hilt..The cord or rope is very typical of work done by sailors on board ship during a long voyage home...

Regards,

Paul..
