threetoecrow Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 Hello. Newcomer. Thinking about buying this sword. It only has one insignia or signature. The fellow has a few and this one caught my eye. Not sure why. I am looking to possibly get a maker and a date it was made. Thank you. Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 If it isn't it must have been messed with. I hope to be wrong though. Better in focus shots would help assessment. John Quote
Grey Doffin Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 This is a fake, most likely from China. The notches at the start of the tang aren't aligned with each other and the shape of the tang is wrong (it doesn't taper). The placement of the holes in the tang is off. The signature, if that's what that is in your 1st pic, is totally wrong. Bet if you showed a pic of the other end of the sword it would be just as wrong. Don't buy a Japanese sword until you've done some study; otherwise you are ripe for the picking. After you've seen many of the real thing, fakes like this will be easy to spot. Grey 4 Quote
Jean Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 Steve, Look at every single sword on this site, then you will be able to spot any fake: https://www.aoijapan.com Quote

Jean Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 Yes but once achieved, there is absolutelly no excuse for not spotting fakes Quote
