Brian Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Oh man! I just have to post the pic for those who didn't go there and see this one. Some South East Asian fishing spear head maybe? Brian Quote
Ford Hallam Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 I think you're wrong there, Brian ...it looks Klingon to me  Quote
Rickisan Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Perhaps its the corkscrew/opener for what ever hes drinking Rick Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 You guys are missing the boat entirely on this one! You know the little ear wax spoon on the top of kogai? They were for the genteel Samurai in the city. The real, blood & guts Samurai in the country didn't have time for any such foppery; they used a serious ear wax cleaner. I forget the Japanese word for these implements; maybe one of you can supply that. In any case, this is the real deal in Samurai ear conditioning, with the added time saving advantage of being able to clean both ears at the same time. Grey Quote
Brian Hancock Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 This guy is off to a flying start on Ebay. 28 deals and already he's down to 93% feedback. Oh Dear! Brian. (UK) Quote

IanB Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I think the 'high ranking officers' must have been overwhelmed to have been issued with one of these. No doubt it came with a handy booklet entitled '101 Fun Things To Do With Your Issued Wiget'. Ian Quote
Jacques Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Hi, Should be nice for Milt to make a scroll hook Quote

Brian Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 I have the answer! It is a reverse horimono! They cut away the rest of the sword in this case, and just left the horimono instead of the other way round. Ok... 'nuff now. If only we discussed real swords this much. Brian Quote
mercierarmory Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 I asked the guy if the auction was a joke and mentioned that I thought it might be a fishing spear. This is the response "What do you mean is this auction a joke? A fishing spear? You have no idea what you are talking about!!!!!! Why dont you do a little research, Or I should say in your case a lot of research!!! Find someone else to be STUPPID to....." Wow. That's all I can say. Quote
James Posted May 17, 2008 Author Report Posted May 17, 2008 I don't believe it - I've found another one, but this one here is at a real bargain price: http://cgi.ebay.com/World-War-1-Japanes ... dZViewItem Quote
Brian Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Very bizarre. Not in any of my ethnographic edged weapons books. Oh well..have emailed the seller the new link, maybe he wakes up. Probably not though. I'm glad we at least know what a Japanese sword looks like Brian Quote
Nobody Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 At first I thought that it was a lance or something. But now I am thinking that it might be a part of decorated fences. Quote
Stephen Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 i cant help but thinking how much time and thought has been put into this thread and so little to someone who has true Nihonto and wants to know more about it. Quote
Brian Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Bit of a laugh never hurt, and keeps us from the daily stresses. They aren't mutually exclusive either...not like we only get 2 posts per day and if we use them on this thread, we can't participate elsewhere But of course this one, whilst fun, is flogged to death now I think. Stephen Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 lol could not even hear the horse whimper. Quote
Guest reinhard Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 There's no reason to make fun of this object. It is a medieval prototype of the Swiss army knife. reinhard Quote
Brian Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Much as I hate to continue the light off-topic banter here and would like to move back to the genuine article, since Swiss army knives have come up, just had to show this one off that I saw on eBay yesterday. It's genuine, and limited edition, and goes for around $1000. Brian Quote
