dancingbear038 Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 As I said in an earlier post my friend's widow asked me to help get info on his collection. This is the great sword. Thanks for any help, Thomas B. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Thomas, you could make reading the signature easier if you put the blade photos tip-up. Quote
dancingbear038 Posted June 5, 2018 Author Report Posted June 5, 2018 Thanks. I will remember that in the future. Thomas B. Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Perhaps Takukuni Kanemoto 澤図包元 if what I see is even correct. John Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Or perhaps KANEMITSU, considering the distance between the KANJI. 1 Quote
Prewar70 Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Please, don't ask for additional pictures I've seen enough...... 1 Quote
Curran Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Please, don't ask for additional pictures I've seen enough...... Yes, one might say that is more than enough info. I first read it Kanemoto, but spacing and second look- I think Kanemitsu. Good read by John on the first character, to come together with Takukuni Kanemitsu. Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 BTW, the fuchi is signed 義永刀 Yoshinaga ? (tou) I don't know why 刀 is added. The tousogu would look good cleaned up a bit. The tsuba actually intrigues me, cast bronze with figures?? It seems to be Takegawa ju .... 武川住.... Curious. John Quote
k morita Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Yes, mei is Kanemitsu 包光 Mei says Sawada Kanemitsu saku (澤田包光作). WWII period,Seki smith. 3 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Please put a shirt on or crop yourself from the photos! Quote
dancingbear038 Posted June 6, 2018 Author Report Posted June 6, 2018 I found a signature for Sawada Kanemitsu and compared it to the signature on the nodachi. Only one character looks similar to me. Thanks again, Thomas B. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 The NAKAGO of the 'widow-maker' NO-DACHI looks much older and the signature doesn't seem to be from the same hand. Quote
Brian Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 If Morita san says it reads that, then you can count on it.Yes, it's him. No gimei of an average Seki smith like this. 1 Quote
dancingbear038 Posted June 6, 2018 Author Report Posted June 6, 2018 I put the nakago under a microscope and copied the characters. Thomas B. Quote
Markus Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 BTW, the fuchi is signed 義永刀 Yoshinaga ? (tou) I don't know why 刀 is added. The (刀) reads horu in this context, i.e. "carved (this)." 1 Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 Ah, thank you. A short hand for 彫る John Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted June 8, 2018 Report Posted June 8, 2018 Is the blade length c. 92,5 cm like in your picture? Quote
