It might be the photo or my eyes, but something about the patina on the tang, nakago Jiri (not typical bizen shape) and badly done signature makes me think Chinese copy.

 

I hope I'm wrong but I'm sure you'll get some other views soon.

Thomas,  it is by a Bizen Munetsugu who would appear to be a shinto smith hence the rather uncharacteristic shape of the tang. You see so many Bizen blades made in the late 16th C. which have a more parallel tang with a rounded nakago jiri.

Hi John, please note that 'Bizen (no) Suke is an honorary title. Munetsugu is a shinshinto smith who did not live in Bizen or follow Bizen workstyle in terms of the shape of his nakago. Regardless, this sword is very suspicious and I would agree with your concern.

This is another example of them crossing the line and now making forgeries (no pun intended) instead of their own copies or tributes to mumei swords.
