Blinddate207 Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Hi new to forum and first post. Can anyone give me information on Signature on the Tang and any information on how to clean rust off the Tang. Thanks Gordon Flemming Quote
EdWolf Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Welcome, First of all, don't clean the tang. Before you go any further, read this first. http://www.nbthk-ab.org/Etiquette.htm Best regards, Ed Quote
Blinddate207 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Report Posted May 20, 2018 Thanks Ed. With the active rust wondering how I contain it without cleaning it thanks Gordon Quote
vajo Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 I would recommend to treat the sword first some days in petroleum. Looks like the sword lays a long time in salt air. Quote
Stephen Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Tap the layers of rust with a wood spoon till all flaky rust is gone...oil a old T-shirt wipe and change fold repeat until no rust shows on T. We can almost read it now, better answer when your done. 2 Quote
Stephen Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Ed we clean active red rust. Your thinking of normal patia on nakago. 2 Quote
EdWolf Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Stephen, I know but was afraid he would ruin the sword. My English writing is not good enough to explain how to proceed. Best regards, Ed Quote
Blinddate207 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Report Posted May 20, 2018 Thanks everyone for reply’s . I will try you suggestion Stephen in a couple of days and get back with some photos. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 The mei reads (No)shu seki ju Kojima Katsumasa saku. It looks like you’re picture is missing the first kanji, but I’d bet it’s there. Katsumasa (勝正), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – „Katsumasa“ (勝正), civilian name „Kojima Shichi´emon“ (小島七右衛門), born October 20th 1892, he studied under Kaneyoshi (兼吉), worked as a guntō smith and died September 22nd 1947 4 Quote
DanielGJ Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 hello Gordon, here's an example of katsumasa signed , a greeting Daniel. Quote
