TheGermanBastard Posted April 29, 2018 Report Posted April 29, 2018 Nice Tsuba and interesting sword. BEst post more images of the bare blade. Is this coming from a French floor auction? Quote
SAS Posted April 29, 2018 Report Posted April 29, 2018 ^^ that is what my initial impression is as well. Quote
Kubur Posted April 29, 2018 Author Report Posted April 29, 2018 Thanks for your comments guys Actually i bought it for the tsuba. I will open the sword later, I prefer to be cautious... Thanks for the link about etiquette. Is it normal to have two pegs holes instead of one?? Quote
SteveM Posted April 29, 2018 Report Posted April 29, 2018 Its not uncommon to have two (or more) peg holes. Quote
Kubur Posted July 21, 2018 Author Report Posted July 21, 2018 Dear All, I did some photo of the menuki and the tang. The signature is almost erased, I'll be happily surprised if someone can read something... Thanks Quote
kissakai Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 I'd be more surprised if someone on the board doesn't get it Also the menuki are interesting Edit Yes a nice tsuba and similar to one I have Quote
Stephen Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 Sukesada be my guess, like honeycomb tsuba as well Quote
tokashikibob Posted July 22, 2018 Report Posted July 22, 2018 Nice pickup, that sword has been places and seen many things. Quote
Geraint Posted July 22, 2018 Report Posted July 22, 2018 Dear Kubur. Your sword seems to have a very elegant sugata. Could we see a picture of the whole blade, nakago included? That will help with the date. It's a nice find, you will have to consider the restoration at some point but take it slow and seek advice. Looking forward to what this one turns out to be. All the best. Quote

Kubur Posted July 22, 2018 Author Report Posted July 22, 2018 Dear All, Thank you very much for your very kind comments and very useful information's. Kind regards, Quote
Kubur Posted July 22, 2018 Author Report Posted July 22, 2018 I'll do more photos. About restoration, my main problem is the ito very dry, i would like to put some wax or a cream on it. But I would to be sure to not make it worse. Quote
Geraint Posted July 22, 2018 Report Posted July 22, 2018 Dear Kubur. In the short term tying some matching thread around it to hold it in place is all you can do. Once it has reached this stage it is very weak and will sometimes fall apart at a touch. Re binding is considered a standard restoration and will add to rather than detract from the sword as long as it is done well. Something to think about when you are ready. All the best. Quote
