Vermithrax16 Posted April 25, 2018 Report Posted April 25, 2018 I am thinking the health of this sword is what pushed it into Juyo (kasane is healthy) and some great activity all over the hamon. Kissaki is huge. Thought shortened naginata at first: https://www.aoijapan.com/katana-mumei-den-hojoji-15th-nbthk-juyo-paper Quote
Guido Posted April 25, 2018 Report Posted April 25, 2018 Thought shortened naginata at first: Your first tought was right : the papers say naginata-noshi. 1 Quote
Guest Rayhan Posted April 25, 2018 Report Posted April 25, 2018 I was at Aoi Art on the 21st and saw this one. (It could have been mistaken for Den Chogi). Very strong profile and healthy for it's age 1 Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted April 25, 2018 Report Posted April 25, 2018 Here is a funny fact as I've been building my own database for personal purposes. Most of the sold swords "that can be easily tracked online" in the recent years (have been sold by well known dealers) that bear attiribution to Hōjōji are naginata-naoshi. Also to be noted that almost all of them had Jūyō status. Granted my sample size for Hōjōji is still very small 5 naoshi and 1 katana, out of them only the naginata-naoshi that is 37,8 cm had Tokubetsu Hozon. Another thing is that by looking at the asking prices of Hōjōji swords, they are almost always on the "low tier" of Jūyō. I personally really like very large naginata & naginata-naoshi and I like works of this school. I think the one Aoi has for sale is a really nice sword. Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted April 25, 2018 Author Report Posted April 25, 2018 Great info Jussi! Glad my 1st thought was right. Lovely piece. Quote
Lingonberry Posted April 26, 2018 Report Posted April 26, 2018 Been wanting to learn more about the Hojoji for a while. Always nice to see one pop up every once in a while. Quote
