rantoulpawn Posted April 16, 2018 Report Posted April 16, 2018 I have been working on identifying several swords in my collection. Once again after long periods of and on again trying to match kanji, A cry for help. I will post several pictures. The nagasa is 63.8 cm, the sori is 1.8 cm, and the nakago is 21.4 cm. Thank you for any help you can share, or site to read. I did notice that the hand that signed the mei seems different from the hand that dated it. Pat Quote
rantoulpawn Posted April 17, 2018 Author Report Posted April 17, 2018 Thank you for the reply Raymond, did you have any feeling on the different style between one side and the other? Quote
rantoulpawn Posted April 17, 2018 Author Report Posted April 17, 2018 I think the date ends with , the third month, but I can not find the first kanji, comments are welcome. Pat Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 17, 2018 Report Posted April 17, 2018 Sorry I missed your comment Patrick. I am not certain of the full inscription, but the last two kanji are Sho Gatsu (first month). Quote
uwe Posted April 17, 2018 Report Posted April 17, 2018 Might be Zodiac?! Second looks like "hitsuji"?? Quote
rantoulpawn Posted April 17, 2018 Author Report Posted April 17, 2018 Thank you Raymond, appreciate your time, whittling away at it. I have accumulated swords for some time, but have not been around knowledgeable people to converse with about them. Thanks again. Pat Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 17, 2018 Report Posted April 17, 2018 I agree with Uwe. Looks like this may be Mizunoto Hitsuji (癸未). If that is correct, this would equate to 1943. 4 Quote

rantoulpawn Posted April 18, 2018 Author Report Posted April 18, 2018 Thank you one and all, for dissolving my mystery, very much appreciated. I can see how far I need to go, Taking in the overall look of a kanji, over the specific strokes. Practice. Quote
