Ray Singer Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 A local collector asked for my thoughts on the attached tsuba which is for sale, and I would prefer to ask the opinion of members who are more knowledgeable in this area. https://www.facebook.com/groups/nihontodo/permalink/1620405071413303/?sale_post_id=1620405071413303 Appreciate any feedback... Kind regards, Ray 1 Quote
Curran Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 A tsuba recently listed on Yahoo!Japan, but now supposedly for sale from Guandong? Well, yes, it is ko-kinko. The huge umbrella thrown over early kinko works as 'ko-kinko' could stand to be graded from 0 to 10. I'd say this one is more interesting than many, but not particularly a candidate for TH or Juyo. Ray Singer Posted April 10, 2018 Author Report Posted April 10, 2018 Interesting, thanks for the feedback Curran. Quote
Brian Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 An above average example of Ko-Kinko imho, but like Curran said, not top level. But certainly better than the usual cookie-cutter examples we see. Quote
Marius Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Ray, My problem as someone who just loves early soft metal guards - the pics make it look a bit too gaudy and Edo-ish, which I suspect is not the case in reality. My advice to the seller: make some better pictures, show the mimi and the depth of the tsuba, and - for goodness sake - do not show the seppa dai as they were a mirror. It looks like a good tsuba that bad photography has made seem unattractive. 2 Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Hello Ray, My thought is that the Ko Kinko call here is a let's play it safe, and, yes, may speak to quality or lack there of, as in not mainline work. Quote
