Stephen Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 One heck of a find. Noted smith...sought after fittings= score big time! Quote
Stephen Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 downside is pitting in hamon....how long is it? Quote
drb 1643 Posted April 9, 2018 Author Report Posted April 9, 2018 It's 25.5" and yes it could definitely use a polish. I have to ask if the Mr. Numata that is mentioned on the mei would be the soldier who "ordered" this blade? To everyone who has sent me a pm, I just bought it so I want to keep it for now. If I decide to sell it I will contact you. Thank you everyone for your comments and expertise, I sincerely appreciate it all. Tom Quote
Stephen Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 sword guy Jose is our resident expert on your smith, id ask him many questions Quote
Bazza Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Saya appears to be lacquered - another good sign IMHO. BaZZa. Quote

drb 1643 Posted April 11, 2018 Author Report Posted April 11, 2018 Brian, I am going to make inquiries and plan on having it restored. Thank you all very much for your comments and advice. It is greatly appreciated! Tom 1 Quote
peterd Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Tom, please keep us updated. I think lots would be interested. Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 To punctuate what others have said, Okimasa was an excellent smith. Arguably the best smith working during the war. A special order example is worth having restored by a top, licensed swordsmith (ie. do not use a self-taught amateur). I am attaching photos of an Okimasa I own in an absolute top quality Japanese polish. 5 Quote
