Traveling With Sword

There is a strong possibility I may be traveling to the Orlando for the Sword show.   What is the best way to do airline travel with a samurai sword?  What is the procedure for traveling on an airline with a samurai sword?  What should I use and how do I pack it for airline travel?

Paul,

when you wear the sword in the airplane, make sure you have the correct YOROI and KABUTO on (no YARI and no horse please; it's not allowed in airplanes). Otherwise wearing a long blade would be too conspicuous!

Sorry Paul   liget question, a few use golf club cases, other gun cases. less conspicuous the better.

Hi Paul,

Hard shell golf club cases are great for swords but if you'll have only 1 sword a gun case makes better sense.  Put a label, "No Firearms Inside" on the case, wrap tape over the latches, and include a note inside that explains how vulnerable the sword is to damage, please be careful, and please retape the latches.  I include my cell # so TSA can contact me in the airport if they have questions.

Another option is mail, UPS, or Fedex to yourself at the hotel.

Hi,

I made a case from piping parts from the hardware store. Source was an online instruction for a DIY fishing rod transport case...

Not sure if it's ok in a plane but at least an idea...

It's fine on a plane, Andi. That's similar to what I use, although I use TSA locks on both sides of the cap.
