SA dealer has this manual that he says is a wartime sword instruction manual. I suspect it's a Kendo manual, but no idea of when or what for.
I know the pics are blurry, but are any of the talented translators here able to read the title and make out what this is exactly?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Brian,

The bits I can make out are:

剣術 - the first two characters of the left-hand column - "Ken Jutsu"

陸軍省 - The first three characters of the second column - "Rikugun Jyoo" - Army ministry

The date is Showa (on the basis that it looks more like Showa than, Meiji or Taisho but it's not too clear) 9th year, 6th day of March.

No doubt you'll get someone who can fill in the blanks shortly - but it looks more like an army training manual than civilian kendo instruction book.

Best,

John

As John says above; a manual on swordsmanship

剣術教範  Kenjutsu Kyōhan  (Swordfighting manual)

陸軍省検閲済  (approved by Army censors)

昭和九年三月六日 March 6, 1934

It looks like a manual that was periodically renewed. There are earlier versions of the same available online.

Thanks guys. So an instruction manual on using the sword for military means, or just a general "swordfighting" manual reprinted just before the war?
