Vermithrax16 Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 Danny M at Nihonto Craft has a spectacular Sue Sa sword up for sale: http://www.nihontocraft.com/Sue_Sa_Katana.html A friend of mine held this sword when it was on exhibit a while ago. He was blown away. 3 Quote
J Reid Posted March 13, 2018 Report Posted March 13, 2018 Beautiful sword.. interesting that the gakumei is unreadable.. to me it looks like it was professionally erased. Regardless, very attractive sword. 1 Quote
Greg F Posted March 13, 2018 Report Posted March 13, 2018 A real beauty, thanks for sharing Jeremiah. Greg 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted March 15, 2018 Report Posted March 15, 2018 Professionally erased some time ago, too. Otherwise, why would anyone punch an ana through it? 1 Quote
Surfson Posted March 16, 2018 Report Posted March 16, 2018 His explanation of how he attributed it to Nambokucho based on the TH papers is noteworthy. Quote

Vermithrax16 Posted March 16, 2018 Author Report Posted March 16, 2018 I evaluate blades on what they are, I felt this one was worth a look. Quote
Surfson Posted March 16, 2018 Report Posted March 16, 2018 It's a beauty Jeremiah. I'm sure you like the hada, as do I. I also like the kissaki and the nakago. Cool. Quote

From what I have seen, it's probably a long story, but I can imagine a direct reason why that is. Quote
Surfson Posted March 17, 2018 Report Posted March 17, 2018 Do tell! It looks like there is no mei, but I assume there is one that is hard to see. Otherwise, there would be no point in making the gakumei. What do you think is the explanation? Quote
Ray Singer Posted March 17, 2018 Report Posted March 17, 2018 Gakumei may have been added using the mei of a completely different sword as an act of deception. Was judged gimei and the mei was removed. I have seen several Gakumei in which the mei was clearly removed later. 1 Quote
Surfson Posted March 17, 2018 Report Posted March 17, 2018 That is a plausible explanation Ray, and does make more sense if there is actually not a visible mei with the sword in hand. Quote
Jean Posted March 17, 2018 Report Posted March 17, 2018 Years ago, perhaps a decade, on Aoi Art there was a papered hasebe daito with a gakumei, the mei had been erased....Masamune? Yukimitsu? Quote

Ray Singer Posted March 17, 2018 Report Posted March 17, 2018 A gakumei which was judged gimei and may (or may not) have since had its mei removed. http://www.legacyswords.com/fs_ant_daito45.htm 1 Quote
