Beautiful sword.. interesting that the gakumei is unreadable.. to me it looks like it was professionally erased. Regardless, very attractive sword.

Professionally erased some time ago, too. Otherwise, why would anyone punch an ana through it?

Seen ana holes punched through family emblems and crests, everyone told me "if it meant good in a fight, who cares".

It's a beauty Jeremiah.  I'm sure you like the hada, as do I.  I also like the kissaki  and the nakago.  Cool.

Sorry if I came off rough, this is a splendid sword.

Interesting observation on the erased (possibly) mei patch. From what I have seen, it's probably a long story, but I can imagine a direct reason why that is.

Do tell!   It looks like there is no mei, but I assume there is one that is hard to see.   Otherwise, there would be no point in making the gakumei.  What do you think is the explanation?

Gakumei may have been added using the mei of a completely different sword as an act of deception. Was judged gimei and the mei was removed. I have seen several Gakumei in which the mei was clearly removed later.

Years ago, perhaps a decade, on Aoi Art there was a papered hasebe daito with a gakumei, the mei had been erased....Masamune? Yukimitsu?

Occam's Razor says this is most likely and what I was thinking.
