francantolin Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 Hello everybody, I interested by this set-yoroi samurai armor, it has the Omoto family crest and is said to be original Edo period. Really nice but for me, the kabuto and the mempo seems too ''clean'' for be old genuine pieces. Any advice ? Thank you Kind regards Franco 1 Quote
francantolin Posted March 12, 2018 Author Report Posted March 12, 2018 ''Fair'' strange balanced '' very correct'' price ?! : 3000 euros ? Not expensive at all I think if it is a real nice old piece / wasting lot of money if it's a composite armor or mixed with reproduction fake pieces ... Quote
Luc T Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 Modern reproduction. Nice as a display. Quote
uwe Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 Hi Franco, unfortunately, I can't find any reference to the mentioned family for this mon. In fact, I can't find this family at all..... Ok, that means not much, but the pics are moreover quite blurry and less detailed. Based on what we have, I would tend to say, modern replica, ...... for the moment! Quote
francantolin Posted March 12, 2018 Author Report Posted March 12, 2018 Hello, Thank you all !! The name is OTOMO and not Omoto !! Dyslexic problem ?!grrr I found the same Kamon with this name but nothing about Edo yoroi or sword with this family crest. Yes, blurry pictures make old but we can'nt really see the (bad) stuff !!! francantolin Posted March 13, 2018 Author Report Posted March 13, 2018 No kamon like found on other armours will it necessarily mean recent reproduction? Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted March 13, 2018 Report Posted March 13, 2018 Good morning all., Agree with Luc & Uwe regarding the age based on the images. The Kamon looks like one of the Myoga (Clove) varients like Daki or Kage Daki Myoga. Used by many families, including in its formal form, the Nabeshima in Saga. Maybe by Marutake Sangyo but not current stock (maybe 1970's)?. http://yoroi.co.jp/english/english/aboutus.html Looks like the Suneate (Shin Guards) are currently displayed upside down. Quote
uwe Posted March 13, 2018 Report Posted March 13, 2018 Hi Franco, Although it makes no sense to discuss a mon on an replica armor, it seems not related to the "Ōtomo" family. As Malcolm said, the mon looks more "Myoga" (Ginger) than "Gyoyo" (Apricot Blossom)..... For the sake of completeness Quote
francantolin Posted March 13, 2018 Author Report Posted March 13, 2018 Hello, Thanks a lot guys for all precious comments, specially about the kamon, I think I will not buy it, maybe make an offer. What can be a correct price for this kind of reproduction? ( seems good quality !...) Thank you Quote
Sly Posted March 13, 2018 Report Posted March 13, 2018 Hello Franco. A correct price for a showa reproduction like this ? I think the price is OK but you can find others at a cheaper price... As you are living in a France, have a look at this : https://www.leboncoin.fr/collection/1392254851.htm?ca=12_s But honestly, let me give you this advice : take more time to save a little bit more money and buy a REAL yoroi from edo period (around 5 - 6 000 euros). If you buy a reproduction, I think that you will get bored very quickly, for this kind of armor has no particular story to tell... 2 Quote
francantolin Posted March 13, 2018 Author Report Posted March 13, 2018 Hello Sylvain, Thank you for the informations & the link sur leboncoin, For the ''Otomo'' armour, I asked the seller to send me some ''zoomed'' pictures + less blurry, He confirm me that for him it's an original one and that he paid it more than 5000€ and that he got a Bill ( from a shop, not an Auction house ... ) He can make a last price ( I can believe him but so why selling it half price , hum hum, ) So waiting for pictures, I'll post them... Bonne soirée et merci encore à tous ! Quote
