SwordGuyJoe Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 Does the spine of the nakago have a very distinct diagonal file mark towards the Mune machi? If so, then the blade is almost surely shoshin, as this is a kantei point for the Horii group. Quote
matthewbrice Posted March 8, 2018 Author Report Posted March 8, 2018 Hi Joe. Like this? --Matt P.S. This tanto has been posted in the 'For Sale' section on the Board. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 Yup. Nice tanto. You don’t see many early tanto from Horii Toshihide/Hideaki/Kaneaki. Quote
matthewbrice Posted March 9, 2018 Author Report Posted March 9, 2018 I have heard from a friend who has translated for me. The side of the nakago that is full of kanji reads 'Taisho nana nen nigatsu (Tisho 7th year 2nd month)Masako (1st name) shyoji (who possess)'. So, this tanto was made in 'February, 1918'. And was Special Order made for '(Mr.) Masako'. --Matthew Brice www.StCroixBlades.com 1 Quote
SteveM Posted March 9, 2018 Report Posted March 9, 2018 Masako 雅子 is a girl's name. Maybe a present for her? Quote
